As a gateway into the networking profession, the Cisco
Networking Academy Program equipped me with the essential
networking knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed
in the Internet age," said Ip Wing Kei, a first-year
graduate of the Cisco Networking Academy Program, which Cisco
Systems first introduced in Hong Kong in 1999.
Like many young professionals, Ip was fascinated with technology
and eager to launch his own career in the exciting field of
computer networking. He was admitted to the Cisco Networking
Academy Program through Hong Kong Institute of Vocational
Education (HKIVE - Chai Wan), where he was undertaking a full-time
higher diploma course in Information Technology.
Embracing a comprehensive Web-based curriculum, the Cisco
Networking Academy Program, structured as an optional subject
in HKIVE, offered Ip a unique program of hands-on lab work
and project-driven training designed to give participants
mastery of both the principles and the practical skills required
for the design, implementation and maintenance of computer
networks. Ip graduated from the program in 2000, when he also
received his higher diploma from HKIVE.
Right after his completion of the Cisco Networking Academy
Program, Ip took the Cisco Certified Network Associate examination
and successfully passed on his first attempt. Equipped with
practical knowledge and on-the- job skills in networking,
Ip quickly secured a job as an Internet support operator in
an ISP company where he has already begun to apply what he
learned from the program.
Ip is now a network engineer at Powernet Internet Group.
"I can say I was really lucky. Not only has the Cisco
Networking Academy Program given me a solid foundation in
networking knowledge and skills - it has also opened new doors
for my career in the networking industry," added Ip.
