On Wednesday, November 13, 2002, John Baily,
Director of the Office of Educational Technology for the US
Department of Education formally announced the Partnership for
21st Century Skills at the National School Boards Association's
Technology & Learning Conference.
Leaders from business, education and government have contributed
toward the formation of this unique organization to define and
incorporate into learning the skills that are essential for
every student's success in the 21st century workplace. The Partnership
for 21st Century Skills will draw from the experiences and knowledge
of educators, administrators, parents, businesses and community
leaders to outline and assess these skills as well as provide
avenues for integrating them into the curriculum.
"Cisco is excited to join the Partnership for 21st Century Skills,"
said John Morgridge, chairman, Cisco Systems, Inc. "We are looking
forward to joining forces with these important partners to define
the skills that students need to succeed and compete in a changing
economy and to provide educators with assessment tools that
ensure that students are mastering those skills."
The Partnership will also create a national campaign designed to reach and educate various audiences such as parents, the general public, government and business leaders to promote the importance of 21st century skills and their integration into our education system.
