 Skills USA Championships Winners

Every year SkillsUSA, with the support of corporations interested in building a well-rounded 21st century workforce, sponsors a national championship for the best career and technical students in the nation.

Contestants compete locally and continue through state and national levels. Over 4,000 contestants participated in 143 separate events each June in Kansas City, Missouri. The vision of the SkillsUSA Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve the industry in evaluating student performance and to align training with employers' needs. This year over 4,000 students competed in 75 occupational and leadership skill areas. An estimated 5000 students compete at the local and state levels before they qualify for the national contest. This was the largest national SkillsUSA conference ever with an estimated 20,000 spectators observing the contest areas.

  • Tim Wickberg - Bradford, VT (2nd Place - Silver)
  • Jon M Smith - Toledo, OH (3rd Place - Bronze)
Postsecondary
  • Darren Jenks - Boise, ID (1st Place -Gold)
  • Timothy Kennard - Yakima,WA (2nd Place - Silver)
  • Scott Daniels - Macon, GA (3rd Place - Bronze)

SkillsUSA-VICA is a national organization serving high school and college students - and their instructors - who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations including health occupations.

SkillsUSA has over 264,000 members annually, organized into nearly 13,000 chapters and 54 state and territorial associations.

Currently, more than 13,000 teachers and school administrators serve as professional SkillsUSA members and instructors. More than 1,000 business, industry and labor sponsors actively support SkillsUSA through financial aid, in-kind contributions, and involvement of their people in SkillsUSA activities at the national level. Many more work directly with state associations and local chapters.

SkillsUSA is an applied method for preparing America's high performance workers in public career and technical programs. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work: high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education, and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service.
