 | Networking Academy Students from Across the Country See Shadows Along with Cisco Employees |  | |

Cisco employees saw their shadows a few days before the Groundhog Day as employees from all 50 states and Washington D.C. participated in the National Job Shadow Day on January 31, 2003.
Renowned for its creative networking solutions, Cisco Systems exhibited the same innovation as Cisco employees prepared to host students across America as part of the Groundhog Job Shadow initiative.
Cisco's participation in this annual initiative is co-sponsored by Junior
Achievement, America's Promise, and the US Departments of Labor and
Education. 400 Cisco employees volunteered their time and talent at
70 different field sites all across the country. Account executives
and engineers shared industry insights with thousands of Cisco Networking
Academy Program students imparting first hand knowledge of working in
the networking and IT industry.
"Job Shadowing provides a unique opportunity to make the world of work come alive for young people," said John Morgridge, Chairman of Cisco Systems. "They are able to learn about the career opportunities created by technology and see how academic and technical skills are applied in the workplace, creating a context for their goals and dreams."
Academy students got a chance to discover their inner passion using several new web-based "virtual shadowing" tools developed by Monster.com to inspire, inform and motivate students. Exciting program elements included job profiles, career information, articles, games and quizzes.
"If students can't come to Cisco, then Cisco will go to them," said
Howard Charney, Senior Vice President of Cisco Systems. In celebration
of Groundhog Job Shadow Day, he will be participating in a web event
on February 25, 2003. All Academies are invited to participate in the
