ATC/ACC Cisco Program proves that Classrooms aren't the only Educational Centers
The Cisco Networking Academy Program is providing hands on practical training to students in Kentucky. Chris Boggs, program coordinator at Ashland Technical College agreed that the Cisco training literally puts students in touch with work opportunities. "The ATC/ACC students get hands-on experience in the classroom with, for example, practice wiring, but there are things you can't simulate," he said. "By doing something for real, in other words, networking computers that other people are going to use on a daily basis, students are forced to think about how their work will be scrutinized one day outside class." The Academy program reached Kentucky about three years ago and has since witnessed a significant increase in enrollment. >> More


An Academy Program Instructor and His Students Bring Holiday Joy to a Family in Their Community
John Rullan, a Networking Academy program instructor at the Thomas Edison High School in Jamaica, New York and his class of sixteen seniors decided to play Santa. They turned to the Postal Service, which receives letters for Santa expressing wishes that individuals and corporations seek to fulfill. Rullan's class got Elba Noboa's letter, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, who was on public assistance. She was unemployed before the holidays, but got part-time sales work for Christmas in a store in Manhattan. The students raised $513 among themselves, other schoolmates, teachers and relatives and helped 22 year old Elba and her 2 children have a joyous Holiday.


The Academy Program Helps to Bridge Digital Divide Through ITU Internet Training Centers
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and Cisco Systems Inc have collaborated to provide Internet training to students in developing nations. This will be done through a network of special centers called the ITU Internet Training Centres for Developing Countries where the curriculum will be provided by the Cisco Networking Academy Program. >> More
