NETLAB is an optional offering in the Cisco Networking Academy Program, as it requires the purchase of the NETLAB bundle and related services.

The NETLAB bundle is a package comprised of both hardware and software. Internet support services for NETLAB protect your investment by providing ongoing software enhancements and feature upgrades.

Using NETLAB instructors can create and manage class records and student accounts. Telnet session sharing allows the instructor to share equipment access with students during lab sessions. The instructor can review a student's actual work on real gear during lab sessions, and student work logs can be reviewed at a later date. Automation of common tasks frees-up the instructor to focus on teaching. The NETLAB software will install, load, and save device configurations; load and recover passwords; scrub equipment, and prepare the equipment for the next reservation upon lab completion. NETLAB will even power off the equipment when no upcoming reservations are scheduled.

NETLAB is equipped with several features designed to assist the instructor during group instruction, enhance the student experience, and automate manual lab tasks. NETLAB features include:

• Remote Lab Access: NETLAB can provide scheduled access to lab equipment 7 days a week, 24 hours a day!
• Reservations: NETLAB offers a variety of reservation types to meet the many needs of the Networking Academy instructor and students Reservation types include Instructor Led Training (ILT), student self-study, student teams, and instructor independent preparation.
• Lab Automation: Prior to lab sessions, NETLAB will automatically load a default configuration for an exercise, set the lab to the last saved configuration, or load no configuration. During lab sessions NETLAB allows instructors to set the lab to a known state, recover lost passwords, or even recover an erased flash with a click of the mouse from anywhere on the Internet. At the end of a lab session NETLAB will save configurations for later use, scrub the configuration, recover passwords, recover from erased flash, and prepare for the next reservation.
• Configuration Management: NETLAB includes a configuration file manager. One click can save or load an entire lab set-up. Instructors can load configurations from another class, from last semester, or even last year. NETLAB will even load default configurations per exercise or from your last lab reservation.
• Classroom Lecture Tools: Telnet session sharing allows instructors to effectively mentor students on tasks specific to their needs. When students ask for assistance, the history feature can be used to see a log of the student's actual work.
• Curriculum Server: The NETLAB system is shipped with Semesters 1-4 loaded and ready for the Academy to host curriculum.
• Web Based Administration: No certifications or special skills are required to manage the NETLAB system. System administration is managed using simple, easy to navigate web pages and menus.
