Collaboration Between Worldwide
Experts
From the initial stages of the LDC Initiative, UNDP and USAID's
Leland Initiative have partnered with Cisco
Systems in the design and strategy of the LDC Initiative.
Each partner contributes their expertise and staff resources
to make the project a success. The teams consult at all levels
on a regular basis to ensure consistency, feedback at the country
level, efficient implementation and measurable results.
Founding Partner Contributions
UNDP has partnered with Cisco to launch the Networking Academy program in Africa, Asia and the Arab States. In particular, Cisco works with
the Regional Bureau for Africa, Regional Bureau for Arab States,
and the Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP).
Through USAID's Leland Initiative,
Cisco and USAID are working to establish Internet connectivity
in African countries, and to expand access and implement projects
that will help developing countries to achieve sustainable
development. USAID and Cisco have established 9 Networking
Academies in 8 countries.
UNITeS volunteers
are recruited and sponsored by UNDP Africa, APDIP, UNV, Cisco
Learning Institute, and Cisco Foundation. A combination of
IT experts and gender experts, based in participating LDCs,
will receive special Networking Academy program training and
assist new Academies with community outreach and expansion
to secondary cities. These activities will provide training
opportunities to a more diverse audience and raise awareness
about the importance of IT in sustainable development.
